Confucius Institutes
The Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Manila University (CI-ADMU) was established in 2006. It is the first Confucius Institute in the Philippines. The mission of the Confucius Institute is to promote Chinese language, Chinese culture and the knowledge of contemporary China to the mainstream society in the Philippines. The Confucius Institute in Indianapolis was officially established in 2008. The Confucius Institute offers elective courses in Chinese to the IUPUI students. It organizes a lot of public activities to promote Chinese culture in the Indianapolis community. The Confucius Institute at Autonomous University of Yucatan (CI-UADY) was established in 2007 after UADY signed an agreement with Hanban. Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) is its partner university. The Confucius Institute is located in the city of Merida, Mexico. It offers Chinese language classes and promotes Chinese culture in the community. The Confucius Institute in Lyon was officially opened in 2009. Through the collaboration among the University of Lumière Lyon 2, the University of Jean Moulin Lyon 3, and Sun Yat-sen University. The Confucius Institute offers different levels of Chinese language courses to the public. The Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town was established in 2010. The University of Cape Town was ranked No. 1 in Africa according to the QS World University Rankings and the Time Higher Education World University Rankings.
