The 2013 annual forum of International Society of Nephrology, Young Nephrologists Committee (ISN-YNC) and Polaris Transplantation Immunology Forum was held in Shenzhen on December 14, 2013.

ISN-YNC was established in 2007 to help better engage its talented younger members in shaping the future of the Society, which now has 9 committees. ISN-YNC holds the official forum annually, and the previous two meetings were held in Brazil and India respectively. This is the first time that ISN-YNC meeting is held in China. The theme of the forum is progression of kidney transplantation and transplantation immunology.

Professor Sun Qiquan, member of YNC committee and director of Kidney Transplantation Department of The Third Affiliated Hospital of SYSU, served as executive chairmen of the forum. Professor Jeffrey Perl, incumbent ISN-YNC chairman and nephrologist from University of Toronto; Professor Dicken Shiu-Chung Ko from Transplant Center of Massachusetts General Hospital; immunology expert Professor Xian C. Li from Houston Methodist Hospital; and Professor Haibo Wang from University of Hong Kong delivered keynote speeches as international speakers. Professor Yang Yang from The Third Affiliated Hospital presided over the keynote speeches. Professor Sun Qiquan, Professor Zhang Qi and Dr. Zhao Daqiang from The Third Affiliated Hospital also gave speeches respectively.

The forum consisted of English section and Chinese section, covering immune tolerance, stem cell transplantation, humoral immunity, discussion of renal transplantation cases and exchanges of clinical experience of transplantation. Young nephrologists learned advanced experiences, which helped to broaden their thinking. The forum was highly praised by ISN-YNC chairman Professor Perl, and also received positive feedback from the participating scholars.

The forum was the first ISN-YNC meeting held in China and was organized by Kidney Transplantation Department of The Third Affiliated Hospital of SYSU. On the one hand, domestic and international leading experts had in-depth discussion in the forum, promoting academic exchanges in the field of transplantation. On the other hand, we also showed our new status of transplantation to the world.
