Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital sends out some specialists to see outpatients at the South Campus Clinic according to needs. At present, there are the following specialists and departments: cardiologist, cardiovascular department, urologist department, endocrine department and neurologists.

For detailed office hours, please see notice at the clinic. According to the socialized medicine system of the university, faculty and students on the South Campus must see doctors at the Clinic if they are ill. If they would like to go to other hospitals outside the campus (including Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital and the South Division of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital), they have to go through transfer procedures as follows:

For in-patients who cannot be treated because of limits in expertise and equipments in the South Campus Clinic, they may be transferred to appointed hospitals after discussion by doctors in the department or suggestion by the head of the department and approval by deputy director in charge of medicine (except cases of emergency).

2. For patients deemed to be transferred by the doctor, they must be approved by the attending doctor or above (except cases of emergency), and a transfer note is issued to the designated hospitals for once only. For reimbursement of the medical fees incurred at other hospitals, the transfer note must be presented together with the bills at the Public Medical Care Management Section of the Office of Finance and University Assets (address: third floor, Clinic Building, Tel: 020-84114118). Without going through the transfer procedures, all the medical costs outside should be paid by the patient himself/herself. To facilitate the faculty and staff going to the hospitals, a shuttle bus is served in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, the South Campus Clinic and the South Division of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital.

The North Campus Clinic

The North Campus Clinic, affiliated to The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, provides clinical medical service for the faculty, staff, students and dependents on the North Campus and is also in charge of the physical examination of the faculty, staff (including the retired) and students. The medicines at the pharmacy of the North Campus Clinic are supplied by The First Affiliated Hospital under the national regulations for medicine management. The faculty and students on the North Campus must see doctors at the Clinic if they are ill (except emergency). If the doctor thinks that the patient should be transferred to an outside hospital in the process of treatment, he will issue a transfer note for the patient. As there are basically all special departments in the university hospitals, the patient is transferred to other university hospitals in principle (except tuberculosis and special epidemics, or cases not treated in the existing departments in the university hospitals).

For reimbursement of the medical fees incurred at university hospitals, the medical history and transfer note must be presented at the north campus office of the Public Medical Care Management Section of the Office of Finance and University Assets (address: Room 110, Administration Building (back part), North Campus; Tel: 020-87333085). Without going through the transfer procedures, all the medical costs outside should be borne by the patient himself (except emergency). If there are medicines and physical check items at the clinic which are similar to those prescribed by the university hospitals, one should get them from the clinic.

The Zhuhai Campus Clinic

The faculty and staff of the university must pay cash when they receive medical treatment at the Zhuhai Campus Clinic, then reimburse the money according to the “Detailed Rules for Enforcing the Management of Public Medical Service in Sun Yat-sen University”. If the case requires transferring of the patient to the affiliated hospitals outside, it must be approved by the clinic beforehand and obtain a transfer note. The office hour for reimbursement is Wednesday. The medical bills, medical history (together with the transfer note) must be presented for examination by the Public Medical Care Management Section before reimbursement is made at the Finance Office on Zhuhai Campus or the Public Medical Care Management Section of the Office of Finance and University Assets on South Campus (address: third floor, Clinic Building; Tel: 020-84114118).
